Residents in New Tampa soon will have a new fire station and firefighters in their neighborhood, courtesy of the federal government.
Tampa Fire Rescue today announced the organization is slated to receive $1.6 million grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to fund the Cross Creek Fire Station, said spokesman Bill Wade in a release.
The salaries of the 15 firefighters it will take to staff the new station will also be paid with federal money from a FEMA grant. The $1.4 million, distributed over five years, will allow the organization to hire 36 people, Wade said.
Sixteen new hires – already in training – are being paid from this cash, Wade said.
Construction on the Cross Creek Fire Station No. 22, 10871 Cross Creek Road, will start this year.
