Across the Tampa Bay area and around the world, children and parents took to the streets Wednesday morning for International Walk to School Day. The event, which boasts millions of participants worldwide, is intended to raise awareness of the need for communities to be pedestrian-friendly.
In Hillsborough County, some schools added to the fun with contests and quizzes. Clark Elementary went all out with a pedestrian safety rodeo, and Lawton Chiles Elementary put a twist on the day by creating a camping and outdoors theme.
In Pinellas County, Curlew Creek Elementary in Palm Harbor created a costume of the earth to entertain students. Meanwhile, students at Montessori by the Sea got a chance to chat with firefighters during a water break at the Pass-a-Grille Beach fire station.
