NEW PORT RICHEY - A 46-year-old Hudson man pedaled his way into a Pasco County firetruck, landing him in jail, officials say.
Shortly before midnight Wednesday, Edwin H. Decker was riding his bicycle while under the influence of alcohol and collided with a firetruck on Hicks Road near Chestnut Drive, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
Decker injured his neck and head and was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, where he was treated and released to troopers. At the hospital, a trooper smelled alcohol on Decker's breath and noticed he was slurring and incoherent, the report states.
Decker refused to submit a blood sample, an arrest affidavit states.
He was arrested on charges of DUI and refusal to submit blood for a blood-alcohol level. Under Florida law, a bicycle falls under the same statute as motor vehicles.
It was Decker's second arrest on those charges, according to the affidavit.
Decker of 13709 Hicks Road was being held Friday at the Land O' Lakes Jail, with bail set at $151.
