RIVERVIEW - When Durant, trailing Riverview 8-7, took possession of the ball at the start of the fourth quarter, Cougars coach Mike Gottman pulled his offense aside and told his players that this was the drive that would decide the game.
The offense responded, taking the ball 60 yards to the end zone on a drive that was capped by a John Hicks 10-yard, game-winning touchdown run.
"We started finding the rushing seams inside," Gottman said of his team's fourth-quarter offense. "We started getting four or five yards a pop and were able to control the clock."
In the opening quarter, Durant scored first after Joshua Halferty recovered a blocked punt to give the Cougars the ball and two plays later, Antonio Morris had a 20-yard touchdown run.
On the Sharks' next possession, they scored early in the second quarter after big gains of more then 20 yards from Ronnie Johnson and Terrance Carter to set up a 1-yard, direct-snap dive from Johnson. Riverview was successful on a conversion run from Jarid Heffers to take a 8-7 lead the Sharks would eventually lose in the fourth quarter.
Both offenses struggled, with neither gaining more than 200 yards.
