BRANDON - Wharton staved off a furious fourth-quarter Brandon comeback to escape with a narrow victory.
The Wildcats (2-4) took a 15-point lead with five seconds remaining in the third quarter when running back David Larry tore through for a 41-yard touchdown run.
Down 27-12 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Brandon's multitalented wide receiver Sean Watson sparked the Eagles with a 50-yard touchdown reception with 3:35 left in the fourth quarter. On the Eagles' next offensive series, facing a fourth down with 48 seconds left in the game, quarterback Alan Knipple found Watson again for another clutch pass, this one for 27 yards. A few plays later, Watson hauled in his third receiving touchdown, a 5-yard reception with 37 seconds left.
Brandon however failed to convert on the game-tying two-point conversion attempt, ensuring victory for the Wildcats.
Wharton's Shane McEwan finished with 80 all-purpose yards and a rushing touchdown.
Watson finished with 144 yards and three touchdowns to lead Brandon.
