TALLAHASSEE - Florida State players walked arm-in-arm in a show of unity with Coach Bobby Bowden in the middle of the front row as they came onto the field for Saturday night's weather-delayed game against No. 22 Georgia Tech.
Bowden had been in the middle of a weeklong controversy about his coaching future after the chairman of the university's board of trustees said earlier in the week that the 79-year-old coach should retire at the end of the season.
Florida State (2-3, 0-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) entered Saturday's game off to its poorest start since Bowden's first year at the school in 1976.
Bowden's 384 coaching wins are the second most in major college history, four fewer than Penn State's Joe Paterno.
