TAMPA - The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the man who was hit by a car while walking on Hillsborough Avenue late this afternoon.
Barry Baker, 57, of Tampa, was attempting to cross West Hillsborough Avenue when he was struck by a 1993 Chevrolet driven by Shannon Cutter, 25, of Tampa, the FHP said.
Cutter was westbound on Hillsborough Avenue in the inside lane at around 5:50 p.m. She was just west of Elliott Drive when the pedestrian tried to cross Hillsborough.
Cutter swerved to the outside shoulder but couldn't avoid the pedestrian.
The man died at the scene. Cutter, 25, received minor injuries, and her passenger, Michael Ackerman, 26, of Palm Harbor, received no injuries.
The crash and investigation closed westbound traffic on Hillsborough Avenue for three hours, the FHP said.
The case remains under investigation.
