TAMPA - Avi Davidson, the Northdale teen severely injured when he climbed a power pole Oct. 1, is undergoing surgery to repair his injured spine.
Davidson family spokesman Michael Barnett of Tampa Jewish Services said this afternoon Avi underwent the 12-hour surgery starting at 11 a.m. Doctors hope to repair his spinal column, which was damaged in his upper back, according to his mother, Lea Merrill Davidson-Bern.
Davidson was suffered second- and third-degree burns over his chest and arms when he touched a live powerline while atop a pole trying to photograph a sunset. He remains heavily sedated and unconscious at Tampa General Hospital, his family said this weekend.
