Woman finds her stolen bike for sale on Craigslist

A woman perusing Craigslist last week spotted her stolen bicycle for sale, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was not immediately available, called Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies, who contacted the seller and made arrangements to meet him to buy the bike.

Deputies said the $870 Giant Avail bicycle had been reported stolen from the woman's garage on Wednesday. She said recognized the bike as hers because she had replaced the stock handlebars with special ones.

The woman and an undercover detective contacted the seller, who agreed to sell the bike for $670.

They met at a supermarket at the corner of U.S. 301 and Lake St. Charles Boulevard on Friday afternoon. Two detectives met the seller, inspected the bike and matched the serial number, deputies said.

As deputies moved in to make the arrest, the seller bolted but was captured within minutes. The bicycle was returned to the owner.

Charged with burglary of a dwelling, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and obstruction was Michael Anthony Tribble, 16, 6940 Freeport Road, Riverview.

He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
