Man charged with running Rx drug ring, held on $4.2 million bond

Brooksville - There are the standard $500 bonds and then the ones for the big-time operators.

By the numbers, Jeffrey Ware is a big fish. His bond is set at $4.2 million.

Ware, 33, was arrested in Brooksville today with a Citrus County warrant for his arrest.

He was charged with 16 counts including federal racketeering, trafficking in controlled substance, conspiracy to commit trafficking in controlled substance and unlawful attempt to acquire controlled substance.

Ware's wife Jackie, called the bond "outrageous" and said the charges against her husband were "bogus."

"He's a very loving father; he's not a criminal," Jackie Ware said.

Gail Tierney, the Citrus County Sheriff's spokeswoman, said Ware was the biggest catch in a months-long investigation into what the agency said is a ring that obtains fraudulent prescriptions and sells or uses the drugs.

Investigators also arrested James Guenther, 25, of Spring Hill and charged him with multiple drug-related charges.

Guenther's bail was set at $760,000. Both men are in the Hernando County jail.

Tierney said there were numerous people involved in the ring and more arrests are pending.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office will hold a press conference on the case at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Emergency Operations Center in Lecanto.
