TAMPA - A man who injured a Hillsborough County deputy in a wreck and fled the scene turned himself in today, deputies said.
Timothy Jerome Thompkins, 19, faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash and knowingly driving with a suspended license.
Deputies say that just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, Deputy Brian Craig was in a marked car heading west on Gibsonton Drive when a Pontiac Grand Am driven by Thompkins pulled in front of him. The Grand Am was eastbound on Gibsonton and turn toward northbound Interstate 75.
Craig suffered minor injuries; his cruiser sustained significant damage.
Thompkins and a passenger ran from the scene. Details on the passenger weren't immediately available.
