Newsome High No. 6 golfer Anthony Dillenburg shot a 39 Tuesday at Babe Zaharias as the Wolves took on Chamberlain and Tampa Prep. Usually a round under 40 strokes would, if nothing else, be enough to get a player into the team's top four scoring rounds, but not Tuesday.
The Wolves, who have been shooting solid rounds top to bottom, had five players shoot under 40 on Tuesday. Newsome won the match easily, shooting 143 to top Chamberlain's 159 and Tampa Prep's 180.
The Wolves were led by No. 1 Brian Allen's 1-under-par 34 along with a par 35 from Ethan Fowler and 37s from Ryan Coultas and Colin Julian.
Allen has been Newsome's most consistent player, averaging 38.3 strokes per round, and Coach Jim Govreau said Allen is getting better every round.
"He came off Tuesday and told me he hit every fairway and every green," Govreau said of Allen's round at Babe Zaharias. "That's rare to do on any course."
Fowler is averaging 39.5 per round.
