ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - A rescue attempt is planned for a Florida manatee that has wandered into New Jersey waters.
Rescuers fear plunging water temperatures are a threat to Ilya.
The gentle sea cow is huddling near an outfall pipe at an oil refinery in Linden, the only place it can find warm water.
The Marine Mammal Stranding Center says the manatee looks to be in good health, but needs to reach warmer water soon.
The group got permission from federal wildlife authorities to try to try to move Ilya to a holding tank in Brigantine to warm up.
After a few days, Ilya could be flown to Florida in a military transport jet.
A rescue attempt may be made Saturday or Sunday if heavy rain and winds subside.
