MITCHELL...28 GULF...7
NEW PORT RICHEY - Anyone that has followed Mitchell's undefeated season knows about junior running back Ricky Trinidad.
And Trinidad didn't disappoint as he recorded another 100-yard game and scored three touchdowns.
But it was wide receiver-turned-quarterback Matt Michaels that caused Gulf trouble all night as the Mustangs remained perfect with a victory against the Buccaneers at Des Little Stadium.
Michaels, who became the Mustangs' starting quarterback when Cody VanDeBoe was hurt in Mitchell's Kickoff Classic, didn't complete a pass (0-for-4) but ran the option to perfection. He rushed for 161 yards on seven carries, including an 80-yard touchdown.
"The (Gulf) end flared out on the running back so we just ran the option all night," Michaels said. "It feels great to be 7-0. (Gulf) talked a lot of smack to us so it was great to come out here and put it to them."
Gulf (3-4, 0-3 3A-7) came out with a new look on offense. Sophomore Tyshawn Peters started at quarterback while normal starter Madison Burr played running back and wide receiver. Peters threw for 167 yards (11 of 17) while Burr had eight catches for 101 yards.
