SUNLAKE...7 ZEPHYRHILLS...0
ZEPHYRHILLS - It seemed as if Sunlake quarterback Jacob Jackson had been looking for one crease to run through all night. And he finally got it with 11:10 to play in the fourth quarter.
On an option keeper, Jackson took advantage of an over-pursuing Bulldogs defense, turned upfield quickly and ran 23 yards for the game's only touchdown in a victory for the Seahawks (3-3, 3-1 Class 3A-District 7) at Bulldog Stadium.
"We play for all four quarters," said Sunlake coach Bill Browning. "We knew it was going to be a low-scoring game."
Jackson had 46 of Sunlake's 153 rushing yards. The Bulldogs' struggles continued, as they have now gone two consecutive games and 11 consecutive quarters without scoring an offensive touchdown. Zephyrhills (0-6, 0-4) also missed several opportunities to take the lead before Jackson's run, committing two turnovers.
After a 65-yard interception return by Josh Geiger to the Sunlake 7, Zephyrhills fumbled the center-quarterback exchange back to the Seahawks on their next offensive play. Sunlake botched a punt snap to end the next series, turning it back over to the Bulldogs at the Seahawks 14. Quarterback Chuck Smith threw on target in the end zone, but the pass was dropped, and an ensuing 33-yard field goal attempt came up short.
