LAUDERDALE LAKES - Authorities say a toddler survived a fall from a fourth-floor apartment in Lauderdale Lakes.
The Broward Sheriff's Office reports that a teen spotted 2-year-old Jeffrey Cherry crying next to the building this afternoon and called 911.
A sheriff's office spokesman says the boy didn't appear to have any visible injuries, but there was potential for internal injuries. The boy was taken to a nearby trauma center and listed in serious condition.
Rescue workers found a screen on the ground outside the apartment, and a bed was pushed up to an open window in the boy's home.
The spokesman says the child's aunt was in the unit, while his mother was out running errands.
Detectives are investigating signs of neglect, but no charges have been filed.
