TAMPA - Tampa police say the previously closed portions of downtown have been reopened to cars and pedestrians.
At about 11:40 a.m., crews shut down a gas leak that had forced police to closed several blocks of downtown.
The closing affected North Franklin Street and North Tampa Street between East Kennedy Boulevard and East Borein Street. East Whiting Street between North Florida Avenue and North Ashley Street also was closed.
Police said a construction crew working at North Franklin and East Whiting streets broke a gas line at about 9:45 a.m. today, prompting the closing.
Two businesses, Hatricks Restaurant and the downtown YMCA were also evacuated police spokesman Lt. Bill Ferguson said.
No one was injured during the leak, police said.
