FLEMING ISLAND...42 HUDSON...14
ORANGE PARK - Usually when a high school team has 439 yards of offense, there's a good chance that team will win the game.
But not Friday. Despite Hudson quarterback Zack Wynn's 30 of 48 for 321 passing performance, the Cobras (3-3) were no match for Fleming Island.
The Golden Eagles had 530 yards of their own and scored four touchdowns of 50 yards or more yards, including runs of 51 and 66 yards from backup quarterback Craig Brodsky. Fleming Island (7-0, No. 7 in state Class 5A poll) had 305 yards rushing and 225 yards passing. Starting quarterback Rookie Gunn was 11 of 21 for 225 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown pass to Robert Boswell the first time the Golden Eagles touched the ball and a 79-yard touchdown pass to Erern Ntui to start the second quarter.
"I thought we played well," said Hudson coach Mark Nash. "They are an incredible team. They don't have holes and are well-coached."
The Cobras will try to bounce back next week when they host Ridgewood in a Class 4A-District 6 match-up. Hudson won its first district game 43-28 against River Ridge.
