TAMPA - Jesuit coach Joe Ross had high hopes for Friday's home showdown against Strawberry Crest, but a 63-0 romp that could have been worse if not for the running clock through the second half.
"We were just running on all cylinders," Ross said of his Tigers (5-2). "You never expect anything like that but our guys just played their best game. Strawberry Crest was ready for us and played a tough game, but we just had everything going tonight."
Start with quarterback Bobby Eveld, who threw for four first-half touchdowns on his way to 12-for-14 passing for 188 yards before taking the second half off. Add running back Robbie Garcia, who ran for two touchdowns and caught another. While Garcia watched the second half, backup Rusty Davis carried eight times for 121 yards, capped by a 57-yard run.
The rout was on from the start. Jesuit scored touchdowns on every drive through the first three quarters and Strawberry Crest (2-4) didn't notch its first first down until a penalty against Jesuit late in the second quarter.
Garcia got the Tigers on the board early with a 26-yard touchdown run.
