GIBSONTON - Riverview was able to stave off a furious fourth-quarter comeback by East Bay and hold on to win the seventh annual "Rivalry Cup" game on Friday night.
The Sharks (2-4) seemed to be in control after defensive back Jamal Stewart picked a fumble and ran 49 yards to score, giving Riverview a 21-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
But the East Bay offensecame alive and retained possession of the ball for approximately the next twelve minutes. A 6-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Mill to D.J. Richmond began the rally, and the Indians (3-4) then recovered an onside kick at their own 40-yard line.
The East Bay offense then put together a 60-yard drive, ending with QB Aaron Mills hitting tight end Lamarque Caldwell on a 35-yard strike for a touchdown, bringing the Indians within eight points of tying the game.
But there would be no more scoring for East Bay as Riverview's Eric Disla sacked Mills on the Sharks' 35-yard line on the final play of the game.
Riverview was led offensively by Ronnie Johnson who rushed for 195 yards and one touchdown.
