Robinson cruises to 33-7 win

ST. PETERSBURG - Attempting to bounce back from a 21-point drubbing by Newsome last week for the Knights' first loss of the season, Robinson hoped to accomplish two things offensively:

1. Get the vertical passing game in gear; and, 2. Distribute the ball evenly among a number of skill position players.

Consider the mission accomplished.

Robinson (5-1) scored five touchdowns by five different players, jumping on St. Petersburg Catholic (5-2) early, and cruised in the second half for a 33-7 win.

With the win, Robinson sits atop the Class 2A-District 5 with a 3-0 mark and is the district's lone undefeated team.

If any player stuck out it was Knights quarterback Blake Rice. The junior threw three TD passes, connecting on 12 of 21 attempts for 188 yards.

"I'd have to say this is my best game," Rice said. Though he has thrown for three touchdown passes in a game before, he qualified the win over SPC as his best because of his accuracy.

"My completion percentage was off the charts," Rice said. "Whenever I completed a pass I got more and more confident and I completed a lot. I was on a roll."

Rice connected with Frankie Williams for an 8-yard score for the Knights' first touchdown late in the first. His 30-yard pass to Tim Randolph put Robinson up 21-0. Rice's third TD with just more than four minutes left in the first half came when he found Ruben Gonzalez open in the far right corner for a 17-yard score and a 27-7 lead.

The only thing that held Robinson back was fumbles. The Knights, holding a 21-0 lead early in the second, were driving for what appeared to be another score when a fumble killed the drive.
