What's in a name?
When I hear or read the word Hispanic, I wonder, who do they mean?
It seems the media, the government and people would like to lump everyone under one word. But it is impossible for one word to properly describe people from many cultures and countries.
Mexico is not the same as Cuba. Argentina is not Columbia, and Peru is not Chile. All have their own histories and cultures.
Why, then, do even government officials want to lump Mexicans with Cubans? After all, don't they and the media realize that to do so is to insult both?
As we have Italian-Americans and Russian-Americans can't we celebrate Cuban-Americans, Peruvian-Americans and Colombian-Americans too?

Time for a repo
In the early 1990s, General Motors repackaged a Chevy Cavalier, put on a hefty price tag and claimed it was more than it was. It was a flop.
Looks like the Bucs picked up one of those "Cadillacs" too.

Tolerance has limits
We once had a prominent football team, but we are at the bottom of the barrel again.
Raheem Morris has no business being a head coach. He is so far over his head. He has no clue about what he's doing.
First, he got rid of our kicker because he couldn't kick field goals. Then he brought in a new kicker but won't even let him kick. How long will it take before they fire him?
Do we have to endure 0-6, 0-7 or even 0-8?
Please, let's contact former Steelers coach Bill Cowher or former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan before they get away so at least we'll have something to look forward to in 2010.
I was appalled at Morris' remark in the newspaper ("Morris demands more from Bucs," Sports, Oct. 13) when he said he would tolerate his players until he can replace them.
So, I guess that's what we'll have to do, too. We'll tolerate Morris until we can replace him!

Hard to remember
Remember when church was where we went to worship and have fellowship with our friends and the pastor? ("Ex-Without Walls employee sues over intolerance," Metro, Oct. 14.)
Nah, I don't either anymore.

Not a parking fan
I have attended concerts in major cities for most of my adult life, but I have never seen such a mess as the parking situation I encountered after the U2 concert at Raymond James Stadium.
We were directed by police into one of the large lots near the stadium where there must have been 25,000 cars. After the concert there was one exit! It took us an hour and a half to get from our parking space to the single exit.
If concert attendees are going to be charged $25 to park, they should have easy exit routes to get out afterwards.

Listen to the military
The politicians in Washington, especially the Democrats, need to get out of the way and let our military leaders with their boots on the ground make the decisions on how to get the United States out of trouble in Afghanistan.
If the commanders say more troops are needed to win the war, then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi needs to back off, act on the advice of the commanders on the ground and allow troops to be sent now. A combination of more troops and Vice President Joe Biden's suggestion about using special operations forces and drones would strike a great balance.
