Pasco County is considering sweeping changes to how future residents will live, work and get around. Here's where things stand and where they may be headed:
Live
As part of a plan to concentrate new housing in south and west Pasco, county officials would like to come up with a way for developers to buy unused housing allotments from rural landowners, whose property would be preserved.
Work
The county set aside $2 million this year to lure high-wage employers and another $500,000 to help existing small businesses expand. Another goal is creating a business incubator to nurture high-tech startups. New employment would be focused on the U.S. 19 and State Road 54/State Road 56 corridors, particularly where those highways intersect with major roadways.
Transportation
The county is investing more of its transportation dollars in buses, bike lanes, sidewalks and trains. County officials eventually hope to see light rail linking Wesley Chapel with Tampa and dedicated bus lanes along U.S. 19.
