TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Charlie Crist is changing advisers. Crist announced today that he's replacing Chief of Staff Eric Eikenberg with deputy chief of staff Shane Strum, 40.
Strum will be Crist's third chief of staff since becoming governor in January 2007. The first, George LeMieux, was named by Crist to fill the remaining U.S. Senate term of Mel Martinez, who stepped down with about 16 months left in his first term.
Crist is also leaving office after just one term, bypassing a re-election bid for governor to run for the seat now occupied by LeMieux.
The announcement said Eikenberg would continue to serve Crist is some capacity — leading to speculation he could take a role in the governor's Senate campaign.
