GAINESVILLE - After four fumbles and six sacks in last week's 23-20 win against Arkansas, Florida is going to fine-tune its offense for Saturday's game at Mississippi State.
The Gators spent much of the game at the line of scrimmage while offensive coordinator Steve Addazio called in audibles. Addazio said Tuesday night that he doesn't want the offense to "stand there so long watching."
PATCHAN SURGERY: OL Matt Patchan had surgery for a torn ACL in his right knee, and Coach Urban Meyer said the rehabilitation will keep the former Armwood High standout out of spring practice.
"He should be back next summer," Meyer said. "He's had surgery and the rehab process begins as we speak. He will be there training and everything (in the spring) but he won't have contact."
BACKS HOGS: OL Marcus Gilbert, who was battling Malcolm Sheppard on a short pass when Sheppard was hit with a crucial personal foul penalty in the fourth quarter against Arkansas, said he also was puzzled by the call.
"I didn't think that was a penalty," Gilbert said. "It was just two guys going hard. I was trying to make a play, pick up some blocks downfield. I don't remember (him saying) anything."
The play moved the ball to the Hogs' 10 and Jeff Demps scored on the next play. An SEC official later said the penalty should not have been called.
INJURY UPDATE: DT Lawrence Marsh didn't practice, but Meyer is hopeful he'll be available soon after missing most of the season with an ankle injury.
DE Jermaine Cunningham (ankle) and LB Brandon Spikes (groin) also missed practice but are probable for Saturday's contest.
