LAND O' LAKES - With just four players at the Class 1A-District 9 girls golf tournament Monday at Plantation Palms, the results were as expected.
Saddlebrook's Lauren Riehle came in first with a 90, Academy at the Lakes' Ellen Crowley finished with a 98, the Spartans' Annike Schroeder shot a 105 for third and the lone Wesley Chapel representative, Savannah Bischoff, finished with a 177.
"As we competed over the season, we kind of knew who the players were and who they were going to be," Academy at the Lakes coach Kevin Crowley said. "As we were redistricted, it made (this district) small and we pretty much knew there was going to be three girls eying the top."
Ellen, Kevin's daughter, had the lead through the front nine, but shot a 54 on the back. She moves on to her first regionals.
"She's walking kind of tall today," Kevin said.
He also said everyone was impressed by Boschoff, despite her score.
"She never gave up and finished the whole round," he said. "That shows some serious heart."
