TAMPA - To help prevent the release of unwanted exotic animals, Plant City and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will host a non-native pet amnesty day Nov. 7.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in a parking lot at the northeast corner of McKinley Drive and Bougainvillea Avenue between Adventure Island and Busch Gardens.
Owners may remain anonymous and surrender their exotic pets with amnesty from Florida wildlife regulations.
Domestic animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets and livestock, will not be accepted.
The commission is seeking qualified adopters who have knowledge of natural history and caging requirements.
Those interested can download an application at www.MyFWC.com/Nonnatives.
Busch Gardens receives dozens of calls a year from exotic pet owners but rarely can accept pet donations.
Reporter Ted Jackovics can be reached at (813) 259-7817.
