It's a sacrifice, but I am willing to save our community $500,000 and assist Tampa Bay Water in picking the best company to repair our reservoir. ("Reservoir consultant could get $1 million," Metro, Oct. 17). My fee would be cut rate. I'd only charge $400,000. The financial sacrifice would be nothing compared to the reward of service to the public.
As my first recommendation, I would call out all those associated with the building of the original reservoir and hand them a shovel. Then they would be told to start digging. They're already on the payroll, so there would be no additional cost. Only one rule would prevail: If it ain't right the first time, you're gonna' do it again!
Maybe, with a little sweat equity, some of our government decision makers would be more appreciative of how hard the taxpayer must work as they spend our millions.
