TAMPA - For decades, The Spring of Tampa Bay has worked to protect women and children affected by domestic violence.
The group is now reaching out to men through the Men in the Movement program, which encourages men to speak out against domestic violence.
Men in the Movement was launched Tuesday night at Lykes Gaslight Square with community members and speakers, including Hillsborough State Attorney Mark Ober and representatives from Tampa police and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
"We know how to shelter people," said Joanne Lighter, The Spring's president and chief executive officer. "Only men can influence other men."
The goal is to raise money and eventually reach schools, churches and organizations with programs to educate men about domestic violence and motivate them to be advocates against it.
