The 43rd annual San Antonio Rattlesnake Festival took place Saturday and Sunday at the city park. The event included snake shows by Jim Mendenhall's Squamata Reptiles and John Storm's World of Reptiles.
There also were toy gopher tortoise races, educational wildlife shows, petting farms, pony rides, inflatables and children's games.
New this year were the chili cook-off and corn toss tournament.
Traditional favorites included the annual barbecue chicken dinners. The festival is hosted by Rattlesnake and Gopher Enthusiasts Inc., a nonprofit organization that was founded for the sole purpose of hosting the festival.
