ST. PETERSBURG - Minutes after police received reports of gunshots at a children's park this morning, a man who had been shot was dropped off at All Children's Hospital by someone in a silver SUV.
The man walked into the hospital's lobby, collapsed and died, St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt said. The victim has been identified as Christopher Lamont Danford, 21, of 1517 25th Ave. S.
Initial reports of shots being fired at the Silver Lake Playlot in the 1300 block of 11th Avenue South were received at 10:45 a.m., Proffitt said. A silver SUV was seen leaving afterward.
At 10:55 a.m., a silver SUV was seen pulling up to the front entrance ramp at All Children's.
Homicide investigators believe the occupants of the SUV exchanged gunfire with the occupants of another vehicle while stopped in front of the park, police said. Danford was standing outside the SUV and received multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso and lower extremities.
Danford got back in the SUV and was driven to All Children's, police said.
