Child abductions

I am absolutely horrified by the number of children being abducted in Florida.

Where I live in Montana, we have had one unsolved abduction in 26 years. Just reading about your situation makes us much more aware of the perils our children face. It can happen here also.

Most of the predators going after our children are repeat offenders. They need to be implanted with microchips if they are let out of prison. Their whereabouts need to be known every second of the day.

God help this latest little girl and her family.

Offers help

Regarding Stephen Cribb's letter on urging Gov. Charlie Crist to sign the death warrant for Bobby Long and enclosing a pen for the governor to use ("Sign death warrant," Letters, Oct. 17):

I will be glad to send the prison some bullets and a heavy duty electric cord to get the job done.

No confidence

Why not a consultant to select the consultant to select the firm to repair the reservoir? But that would indicate that a consultant is needed to select that one, too.

If it will take two years to design the fix, how can the repair firm make a responsible bid not knowing how they are going to accomplish the job?

Does anyone have any confidence in anything these guys will be doing?

Hitting up taxpayers

The assault list on Florida taxpayers by our state Senate just keeps getting longer and longer.

The first step was accomplished with Senate bill 360 that transferred the cost of local infrastructure project improvements from developers to residents.

Further impetus was given when Judge Terry Lewis ruled former House Speaker Ron Sansom not guilty of misconduct in his attempt to divert tax funds to build an airport hangar for a friend.

The final assault has come in by a two-pronged attack. First was the proposal by out-of-state profiteers to drill for oil off our beaches, and second, the attempt spearheaded by Senate President Jeff Atwater to revive the CSX giveaway.

All these assaults are simply about tax money coming from our pockets and going into the coffers of special interests and lobbyists without any provable benefits to the state of Florida.
