LAND O' LAKES - Things that go bump in the night are creeping back to haunt the Land O' Lakes Community Center.
From 7:30 to 10 p.m. today through Saturday, ghosts, vampires and bloody creatures will do their best to give visitors a fright during the community center's annual haunted house.
"We suggest it's for older kids," said Mike Walcott, recreation supervisor for the community center, who is in charge of the project. "I would say like 8 and older, but we leave that to the discretion of the parents. We put a little warning on fliers. It's not intended for small children."
The theme is "Claudia's nightmares," and it starts in a little girl's bedroom.
"There are things in her closet, and they are not happy, nice things," Walcott said.
Visitors who step into the closet wend their way through a maze of hauntingly horrible sights.
"It's dark. It's scary. It's smoky. All those things," Walcott said.
The small children won't be left out. In another room they will have games and events, as well as outdoor bounce houses and a dunk tank, in a sort of carnival atmosphere, he said.
There is no cost for this community event, but donations can help cover expenses and keep the park running, Walcott said.
The community center is at 5401 Land O' Lakes Blvd. For information, call (813) 929-1229.
