The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with Crimestoppers in an effort to solve graffiti cases in the Lithia Pinecrest area of the county.
Investigators say vandals have twice targeted the new bridge on Highway 39 near Thompson Road. They say, each time, it costs taxpayers hundreds of dollars for county crews to clean up the mess and paint over the graffiti.
"They caused damage to our public property and it's a monetary amount that that has to be repaired," said Detective Brian Bryan.
Bryan says the graffiti does not appear to be gang related.
"Our investigation has revealed that it's possibly related to some skateboarders or something like that just from internet Googling the zone-type graffiti stuff."
This morning, deputies went door to door passing out flyers to businesses in the area hoping the public will help them solve this case. Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible. That number is 1-800-873-TIPS.
