PLANT CITY - The NFL isn't the only football league where the players aren't afraid to wear pink.
Members of the Turkey Creek Trojans varsity and junior varsity teams and their cheerleaders are donning pink this month in support of breast cancer awareness.
One of the players suggested that the team members wear pink during October to show they stand behind the cause, just as the NFL is doing, said Polli Fink, whose 14-year-old son, Matthew Chaney, plays on the junior varsity squad. Many of the players are donning pink wristbands and socks to show their solidarity in the fight against the deadly disease.
The parents are thrilled that their youngsters are taking notice of such a serious issue, Fink said.
"I'm very proud of them," she said.
"The whole organization is really proud of them."
