Tampa data center sale announced
One of Tampa's major data center companies will be acquired in a transaction valued at $689 million. Foster City, Calif.-based Equinix Inc. announced a deal to acquire Switch & Data Facilities Co. of Tampa in a cash and stock deal.
With the 34 data centers operated by Switch & Data, the deal will bring Equinix's footprint to a total of 79 data centers in 34 markets. Equinix employs about 1,200 people and Switch & Data more than 370, the companies said.
Generally, under the deal, Switch & Data stockholders would receive either shares of Equinix stock under a formula or $19.06 in cash for each share. Stock in Switch & Data closed at $14.40 before the deal was announced.
Mets made money off Madoff scam
The trustee overseeing imprisoned financier Bernard Madoff's assets has labeled the New York Mets a winner in the epic fraud. He says the baseball team made nearly $48 million in the Ponzi scheme.
Court-appointed trustee Irving Picard has labeled investors who withdrew more money from Madoff than they invested as net winners. That depiction has been contested by many investors.
Frontier to add Oklahoma flights
Frontier Airlines will inaugurate Tampa International Airport's first nonstop service with Oklahoma City on Jan. 17, with flights on Thursdays and Sundays. The flights will use Embraer E-190 aircraft.
Frontier continues to serve Denver from the Tampa airport.
Hyundai may extend refund assurance
Hyundai Motor Co. may extend through next year its popular "Hyundai Assurance" program, a company spokesman said Wednesday. Under assurance, a customer who loses his job can return his vehicle for a refund. The Seoul, South Korea-based automaker has credited the program with boosting its U.S. sales and market share.
Several other car manufacturers have rolled out similar refund offers since Hyundai launched the program in January. It was to expire this year.
AT&T files lawsuit against LCD makers
AT&T has sued major makers of LCD screens used in cell phones, saying they colluded to raise prices AT&T paid for 300 million phones.
