Bulls' Wing-Holt rewriting records
Senior Nick Wing-Holt wanted to leave his mark on the Bloomingdale diving program, and in one week he certainly has.
Last Wednesday, Wing-Holt set a boys school record for an 11-dive meet with a score of 497.7 at the Western Conference Diving Championships. On Tuesday night, Wing-Holt claimed the six-dive record with a score of 289.75 in a meet against Jesuit.
"Ever since I got to the school I really wanted to break the record," Wing-Holt said.
Wrestling
Brandon has long been recognized on a state level, but one publication considers the Eagles program to be among the nation's elite this season.
The Eagles recently were ranked fifth nationally in the Amateur Wrestling News Prep 40 preseason high school poll.
Brandon will have a chance to move up the poll this season when the team heads back to the Cheesehead Invitational in Kaukauna, Wis. on Jan 1-2. Four other teams in the AWN preseason poll will be there as well: No. 2 Apple Valley (Minn.), No. 4 Wyoming Seminary (Pa.), No. 6 Montini Catholic (Ill.) and No. 17 Simley (Minn.).
The Eagles won the Cheesehead Invitational last year.
Girls soccer
Freedom High soccer standout Olivia Bloemke has verbally committed to Division II Rollins College for the 2010 season.
Bloemke scored seven goals and led Freedom with five assists a season ago, and she likely will be a key on a Patriots team that returns 10 starters in the newly configured Class 5A-District 9.
