TAMPA - Authorities have identified the garbage collector killed this morning in Brandon as Frederick Solomon, 34, 1511 11th Ave. E., Bradenton.
The fatal wreck between a 1988 Toyota car and the garbage truck Solomon was working on happened early this morning. Solomon was pinned between the stopped garbage truck and the Toyota when the compact car smashed into the rear of the truck, Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 6 a.m. wreck happened on Parsons Avenue near the Coade Stone Drive intersection, deputies said.
The sanitation truck, owned by Republic Waste Services, was stopped in the northbound lane of Parsons Avenue for a pickup with the victim dumping trash into the rear of the truck when the northbound Toyota driven by Lloyd Cribbs Jr., 33, 3904 Creek Woods Drive, Plant City, hit the vehicle, pinning the worker.
Cribbs was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for undisclosed injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.
Investigators had closed both lanes of Parsons Avenue between Old Hillsborough Avenue and U.S. 92, but the road was opened later this morning, deputies said
No charges were immediately filed.
