MIAMI - Doctors for the Deerfield Beach boy set on fire by a group of teenagers say he's showing significant progress.
Michael Brewer is being treated at a burn center jointly run by the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital. The center director said Thursday the 15-year-old's wounds have staved off infection — a common complication of severe burns.
However, physician Nicholas Namias says Michael's condition can change any time. Doctors on Monday performed the first of many surgeries to repair the boy's skin, cutting away damaged sections and replacing them with skin from cadavers.
Five teens are charged with aggravated battery in the attack this month at a Broward County apartment complex. Authorities say they were retaliating in a quickly escalating dispute over a video game.
