MSMA: A toxic herbicide?
Monosodium methanearsonate (MSMA) is an arsenic-based herbicide. It is one of the most common herbicides used on golf courses to control of weeds such as crabgrass.
In February, the EPA announced it had reached an agreement with major manufacturers to phase out MSMA in all uses other than on cotton fields by the end of 2013. In Florida, where the herbicide has been widely used on golf courses, the ban begins at the end of 2010.
