PORT RICHEY - What better place to observe Halloween than some woods in the dead of night, state park leaders figured.
So the group will help stage the annual Halloween in the Woods at Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park.
The thrills and chills will be offered from 6 to 10 p.m. today and Saturday on Salt Springs Road behind the Sears store at Gulf View Square mall.
"This year it promises to be bigger and better than ever," Linda Tracey, head of Salt Springs Alliance, says in a written announcement. The alliance helps support the state park with events and fundraisers and assists the park manger, Toby Brewer.
Returning from previous years will be hayrides, pony rides, the Kiddy Trail and an even scarier Spooky Trail, Tracey said.
More Halloween games will be available for children. Youngsters also will get free bags of candy.
"This is a wonderful event for the entire family under the night sky at the state park," Tracey said.
General admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children 12 and younger. There are small additional fees for games, food and rides.
