A Crystal River man was mauled by four dogs in a neighbor's yard while trying to save his own dog, officials said.
Richard Catt, 58, was walking his small dog about 3:30 p.m. today when it crawled under the neighbor's fence and was attacked by the larger dogs, which are believed to be mastiffs, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said.
Catt jumped the fence and managed to get his dog to safety but was then attacked.
One of the residents of the home, Sara Linne, pulled into the driveway and saw Catt being attacked, the sheriff's office said. But when she tried to help, she also was injured by the larger dogs.
Linne's husband, who was inside the home, ran outside and was able to get his wife and Catt to safety.
Catt suffered serious injuries to his head, arms and legs and was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
Sara Linne was taken to Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
