TAMPA - Delayed a week by torrential rains, the Tampa Downtown Market opened Friday at Franklin and Madison streets with more vendors, a bigger variety of food and fresh produce, and more space for shoppers to roam.
It is the second year for the Friday market, which features 55 vendors, up from last year's 38. It also is the second year the market was rained out on its opening week.
Operations manager Tiffany Ferrecchia said setup took longer than planned for the market adjacent to Lykes Gaslight Square and north on Franklin Street, but the kinks were being worked out.
"If we were all crammed on Franklin Street like last year, it would look packed," she said. "This year, people have a lot more room to move around."
Back for a second year are such vendors as Lutz Nutz, La Petite France creperie and Pappardelle's fresh pasta. Newcomers include The Cupcake Spot, Bay Coffee & Tea Co., The Dancing Goat and Grandma Grace's Goodies.
