TAMPA - Freedom's T.J. Mutcherson returned a kickoff 73 yards to give the Patriots a first-half lead they would not surrender. Freedom evened its season record to 3-3, while Wharton slipped to 2-5.
A Wharton fumble set up Freedom's first score, a 2-yard run by Keith Lewis. The Wildcats recovered a muffed punt on the Patriots' 11-yard line to set up a tying 2-yard touchdown run by Malik Williams.
The ensuing kickoff was taken by Mutcherson, who used his 4.4 speed to race 73 yards for a touchdown.
Freedom's Alex Landeta added a 37-yard field goal as time ran out in the first half. The defenses took over in the second half, and neither team mounted a serious scoring threat.
Freedom's Tyler Guy passed for 92 yards and ran for 26. Ryan Hatter led the Wildcats, completing 15 of 20 passes for 152 yards.
