VALRICO - Newsome stopped Bloomingdale on fourth down at the 1-yard line to keep the lead with 7:29 left in the game, then added two touchdowns to preserve its fourth straight victory.
Bloomingdale (0-7, 0-3 Class 5A-District 6) pulled within 21-17 in the third quarter with a short Chris Herald touchdown run, set up by a 66-yard run by Eugene Perry, and Matt Firestine's 40-yard field goal.
After the Bulls' defense stopped Newsome (4-2, 2-0) for the second time in the half, senior Derrick Johnson ran 52 yards to set up first-and-goal at the Newsome 5. But the Wolves' defense came up big, stopping four straight runs. The Bulls fumbled Newsome's next punt and the Wolves took control from there.
Vincent Pennington (130 yards rushing) broke free for a 50-yard TD run to extend Newsome's lead with 4:09 left. Then, after an interception, Keller Powers scored his third TD of the game on a 4-yard run with 3:33 left.
Nikolas Anthony ran for 118 yards and a score for Newsome, which finished with 278 yards rushing. QB Matt Klenke passed for 125 yards, all in the first half, for Newsome.
