SPRING HILL - By controlling the ball with a relentless ground game, the visiting Chargers (2-5) ran over the host Hurricanes (1-6).
Senior Hunter Tremaine led the way with three rushing TDs and 146 yards rushing.
After a scoreless first quarter, Chargers coach Phil Hayford moved Tremaine from quarterback to running back.
"We moved from our spin offense, which features two wide receivers, to our power offense, with an extra running back, and it made a big difference," Hayford said.
The Chargers, who ran 63 plays to the Hurricanes' 29, opened the scoring in the second quarter. Starting at their 40-yard line, the Chargers overcame two holding penalties before Tremaine eluded the grasp of four defenders to score from the 18-yard line.
The Hurricanes answered with their only scoring drive. Quarterback Mitch Ritter hit running back Jordan Betancourt for a 36-yard completion. On the next play, Ritter connected with Giovanni Perone for a 21-yard touchdown.
Hurricanes coach Marty Williams gave credit to the Chargers' defense, which crowded the line with 11 players.
"We made some plays, but obviously not enough," Williams said.
