NEED TO KNOW: This is Pittsburgh's homecoming game and the school is urging fans to "go blue" and wear blue clothing. ... With last week's 34-17 home loss against Cincinnati, USF is 15-15 all-time in Big East Conference games. ... Since joining the league in 2005, USF is 5-9 in Big East road games. Three of the victories were at Syracuse. ... USF is 2-1 at Pittsburgh with the victories coming in 2001 and 2007. In the 2001 game, which occurred three days before 9/11, the fifth-year Bulls registered the program's biggest victory up to that moment, a 35-26 upset of the Panthers. ... The game-time temperature is expected to be in the high 40s with a 40 percent chance of rain. ... Pittsburgh is trying to go 7-1 for the first time since 1982, when Dan Marino was the senior quarterback. ... USF and Pittsburgh have two of the Big East's best defensive-line tandems. Three of Pittsburgh's four starting defensive linemen are from Florida high schools. ... Panthers freshman running back Dion Lewis, who was the Big East's offensive player of the week, had 180 yards rushing and two touchdowns in last week's 24-17 victory at Rutgers. ... USF special teams coach John Hendrick was an All-East defensive lineman at Pittsburgh in 1980 and 1981. ... Heinz Field has a quick turnaround before hosting Sunday's NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers.
