Lock up pedophiles
I have to vent.
I am so sick of hearing about another child being sexually abused and/or killed.
When is this country going to wake up and protect our children? We are just as bad as Cambodia, where they serve their children up to the pedophiles on a silver platter.
We let them go, so they can do it again and again. They cannot be cured, so why can't we keep them in prison forever? Don't tell me the law says we can't. We can change the law.

Student adjustments
Why is the school board building an unpopular, $3.5 million addition to the already crowded Plant High School campus when there are several acres of unused school board property adjacent to Robinson High School, just a couple miles south?
Seems like a more fiscally responsible use of our tax dollars would be to expand Robinson and adjust the district lines to balance the schools' respective populations.

Pity the homeless
I read with dismay about the residents near the former Floriland Mall objecting to the homeless shelter being built in the mall. How cruel they are. Maybe one day they will need a homeless shelter.
Have some compassion to those who are less fortunate.

Saving on health care
Recently all major health insurers have announced rate increases of up to 15 percent commencing the first of the year. This means that you, the employer, will have to spend more to provide health insurance to your employees.
The extra cost will have a very negative effect on all business and the whole economy.
To avoid this impending debacle, support universal health care. Once we have universal care, business will no longer have the burden of paying for employees' health insurance, which contributes to escalating prices of goods and services, budget cuts, or curtailed growth.
When every American is covered with a single-payer plan, the funds that you now provide to insure your employees will be available to grow your business. Your employees will also reap the benefits of having their paychecks increased by the amount that had been taken out for insurance.
Universal health care is good for business because it enables employers to expand, pay down debt, increase pay, and hire more employees.

Show courage, Castor
Will U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor support the commanders and the troops in Afghanistan?
The commanders on the ground have requested an increase in personnel and equipment. Will she have the courage to put the men and women in armed forces ahead of political gain?
President Barack Obama has shown no support in giving the troops what they need because he fears that his party will not support his Marxist agenda.
It's time for Castor to put the people of the 11th District ahead of the Democratic Party and support the brave men and women of our military.

Immigrants sans papers
As an Asian-American-born son of Southern Italian immigrants, I do find the illegal alien costume humorous. But I submit that it would be more attention-getting if "alien" were replaced with "immigrant" and with no green card. This is at the core of our country's immigration problems.
My late parents immigrated to these United States from Europe around the turn of the last century, along with hundreds of thousands of others. Back then, there was only one legal point of entry on our east coast: Ellis Island, N.Y.
What I still find quite humorous are the origins of "WOP" and "Tony."
An accepted entrant who lost his or her entry documents had "With Out Papers" stamped on their admittance forms. Since officials often found it difficult to pronounce, let alone spell, the first names of Italian men, they simply opted to call them Tony.
