2 at Tribune win awards

ORLANDO - Tampa Tribune staffers Michelle Bearden and Len Howell won awards in the Florida Press Club's 2009 Excellence in Journalism contest Saturday night.
Bearden won first place for religion writing, first place in light feature writing and second place in commentary writing. Howell won third place for best local design.
The awards were announced at a banquet at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. Three samples of a journalist's work had to be submitted for each entry.
Bearden, a Tribune reporter since 1994, covers faith and values for the paper. She also produces a weekly segment called "Keeping the Faith" that airs on News Channel 8.
Howell has worked at the Tribune for 30 years as a copy editor, editor and page designer.
