TAMPA - Sheena Parveen, a meteorologist and reporter at WCTV-TV in Tallahassee, has been hired by WTVT, Channel 13, as a forecaster for weekend morning newscasts.
Parveen, a native of St. Petersburg, will join WTVT in late November, a station spokesperson said today.
The retirement of veteran meteorologist Howard Shapiro on Friday has resulted in some staff changes and the need for another meteorologist.
WTVT meteorologist Jim Weber will replace Howard on the noon newscasts and back up Dave Osterberg, meteorologist and co-host of the "Good Day Tampa Bay" morning show.
Longtime weekend meteorologist Andy Johnson will move from weekend morning newscasts to weekend evening newscasts.
Parveen has been working at WCTV as a weekend forecaster under the name of Sheena Samanipour. According to WTVT officials, she will use her middle name, Parveen, when she debuts here.
Parveen, who joined WCTV in May 2008, has a degree in meteorology from Florida State University.
According to WCTV's Web site, she likes to fish, work out and visit the beach in her free time.
Reporter Walt Belcher can be reached at (813)259-7654.
